Have you ever heard the saying, “Practice makes perfect?” Well, if you have, it fits this story perfectly. I’ve been skateboarding for two or three years now and I’ve become much more talented at it. What’s funny is that whenever I went out to skateboard, my little sisters would follow. I hated it! So I would run inside and leave the girls out there and they would come in screaming.
Now I’m starting to break my skateboard more and more. In this picture it’s broken. I always thought it was cool to break, sprain, twist, bruise and scratch a bone because you would get a cast. Boy, did it hurt though! I’ve grown older and smarter. Now I don’t try and hurt myself. I did when I was a kid.
I think I’m gonna try to teach Emma how to skateboard next.
This story was written for the Book of Things published in 2011. Hayden was 12.
